Chemical analysis of metals

Chemical analysis of metals are a critical resource for both material and product manufacturers as they provide essential third party technical data and analysis services. Chemical analysis is used to identify the contents, composition and quality of the materials used in product development, manufacturing and in-service support activities.

W I Met-Lab’s teams are continually trained in the most advanced techniques to provide a wide range of chemical analysis services. Whether you seek to verify a material certification or to obtain a detailed breakdown of an unknown material, our laboratory has the expertise to help you select the proper method for your application and end goals.

Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) Analysis

Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) analysis is a rapid method for determining the elemental composition of a variety of metals and alloys. Element’s chemical analysis labs are equipped and ready to evaluate the properties of your material.

OES analysis uses a sparking process, which involves applying an electrical charge to the sample, vaporizing a small amount of material. Once this spark occurs, discharge plasma with a distinct chemical signature is created, allowing our experts to determine the elemental breakdown of the sample. Results of the analysis are given as a percentage breakdown of the constituent elements.

W I Met-Lab has installed the Oxford spectrometer FOUNDRYMASTER SMART and the Hitachi Spectrometer Model FOUNDRYMASTER PRO 2 which High-Tech analytical science GmbH make optical emission spectrometer which is capable to analyze FERROUS and NON FARROUS Metal.

These instruments determination of a wide range of alloys including:

  • Spectro Analysis of Iron base metals & alloys like carbon steel, low alloy steel, tool steel, austenitic stainless steel, Ferritic stainless steel, Martensitic stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, super duplex stainless steel, free cutting steels, etc.
  • Spectro analysis of Aluminum base metals & alloys.
  • Spectro analysis of Copper base various metals & alloys like pure Copper, Brass, Bronze, Gunmetal, Cupro-Nickel, etc.
  • Spectro analysis of Nickel base metals & alloys like commercially Pure Nickel, Nickel-Copper alloys (Monels), Nickel-Chromium alloys, Nickel base super alloys, Nickel Fe-alloys, etc.

Positive Material Identification (PMI) Testing

Positive Material Identification (PMI) is a fast and non-destructive method for verifying the chemical composition of metals and alloys.

Positive material identification is a cost-effective method for confirming general material types. While not as thorough as other chemical analysis methods, PMI is a great option for confirming the alloy or type of large batches of material, testing finished components, re-certifying materials, and evaluating materials that cannot be destroyed, or shipped to a lab.

At W I Met-Lab, we can detect a large range of metals and alloys, and routinely assist with large or on-site projects to ensure your materials meet the required specification and stand up to the demands of the environment.

  • Laboratory PMI services with portable XRF-analyzer -
W I Met-Lab can perform PMI testing in lab. Our experts can assist in identifying mixed batches of material, issuing alloy verification certifications and analyzing expensive or unique components without causing damage.
  • On-site PMI with portable XRF-analyzer -
As part of our On-site Metallographic Analysis, W I Met-Lab offers on-site PMI with a portable XRF-analyzer for identification of medium and high alloyed metals, such as stainless steels, nickel alloys, and copper alloys.

Our on-site PMI analysis services provide you with a rapid response to your material sorting requirements when shipping materials or parts to a laboratory is too slow or not possible.

We can offer all above mentioned tests under all third party inspection agencies
